In a recent interview with LA Magazine, the famous singer Chaka Khan, well known for songs like “I’m Every Woman” and “Ain’t Nobody,” discussed her long-running battle with Mary J. Blige and also shared her opinions on Adele and Mariah Carey.
The feud between Khan and Blige began in 2011, when the latter performed a version of the former’s classic song “Ain’t Nobody” for a commercial for Burger King. Khan was upset that Blige was using her music for a commercial for a fast food restaurant and she voiced her unhappiness to the public. Khan stated in the most recent interview that to this day she has not spoken to Blige since that time and that she has no plans to do so in the near future.
Moving on to Adele, Khan complimented the British singer for her talent but chastised her for the way she speaks. Khan also acknowledged her respect for Adele. “I’m pleased for Adele. Her music is really beautiful. I’d really prefer it if she could simply speak to me in an American accent, all right?” Khan said, in reference to Adele’s pronounced use of the British accent. Khan also discussed her views on Mariah Carey, saying that she thinks Carey’s voice has evolved over the years and that she favours Carey’s earlier work. Khan stated that she loves Carey’s earlier work.
Chaka Khan has always had a reputation for being someone who says what’s on her mind and isn’t afraid to be who she is, despite of the controversy that has surrounding her words. The singer’s long career has spanned more than half a century, and she has won eleven Grammy Awards throughout that time. In 2011, she was honoured with an induction into the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and in 2013, she was presented with the BET Lifetime Achievement Award.
Chaka Khan is a great legend in the field of music; he is still active in the industry and continues to perform and make music. It is possible that her battle with Mary J. Blige will never be settled, but there is no denying her brilliance or her contributions to the world of music. Khan is not scared to speak her mind, as seen by the fact that she is willing to share her opinions regarding Mariah Carey and Adele, despite the fact that they may not be widely held.
